Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills Prism Palette

I didn't buy in to the hype with the Modern Renaissance palette initially. It looked like a beautiful palette but I wasn't sure if I loved it enough. That was until one of my favourite Youtuber's, Arshia Moorjani, raved so much about it I just had to have it! It's now up there with my favourite palettes (a blog post coming on that soon!) and I am so glad I decided to splash by hard earned cash. I was so excited to see what ABH released next.

I was disappointed with the next release, the Subculture palette, as the colours just weren't "me" and though there were a few pretty shades, there weren't enough for me to justify buying it. Ah well, no biggy! That was until the Prism palette was released! I literally fell in love the first time I saw it on ABH's media. Filled with "prismatic" metallic shimmers in jewel tones, this palette spoke to me. The colours looked so rich and opulent - I knew I needed it. Ok, a bit dramatic. But, seriously, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it.

The palettes retail at £43 in the UK, which isn't cheap, however, you do get 14 decent sized pans, a double ended brush (not the best but brilliant if you're on the go and don't have all your brushes to hand) and a mirror (always a bonus!). I bought mine from the ABH UK site - anastasiabeverlyhills.co.uk. It was on offer for £33!

The palette has the same velvet outer as the Modern Renaissance palette but in black with gold wording and an image of a prism debossed in to it. I love the feel of the velvet but I find with my Modern Renaissance palette, it tends to get mucky quickly and can be difficult to clean.

There are 7 shimmer shades and 7 matte shades which I love. Some palettes tend to be very matte-heavy so I'm glad that there is a good mix of both matte and shimmer.

The shade descriptions for each shade, as per the ABH UK site, are as follows:

Lucid: Duo chrome white gold with pink reflect
Eden: Ultra-matte coral pink
Unity: Ultra-matte nude ochre
Sphinx: Metallic warm bronze
Osiris: Metallic midnight violet with red reflect
Sphere: Ultra-matte electric green-yellow
Obsidian: Ultra-matte deep black
Dimension: Duo chrome silver-grey with pink reflect
Parallel: Ultra-matte truffle
Pyramid: Metallic yellow gold with greken reflect
Throne: Metallic blackened blue-green with multicolor reflect
Saturn: Ultra-matte terracotta
Eternal: Metallic violet copper
Lure: Ultra-matte ashy lilac

The shades really are stunning. I swatched using just my fingers for the photographs but I must say the photographs do not do justice to just how gorgeous the colours are.

As with the Modern Renaissance palette, the mattes are super pigmented and not chalky at all. With the exceptions of Obsidian (matte black) and Sphere (matte, luminous yellow). Obsidian is not very pigmented which is disappointing for a matte black shadow and Sphere is chalky with a bit of kickback. I must add that of all the shades, Sphere does not appeal to me at all. In my opinion, it doesn't really "fit" in with the rest of the colours, however I love all the other shades so it's not too big a deal. 13 out of 14 is fine with me!

Lucid was disappointing as I expected it to be very pigmented. I found it was really creamy but did not swatch great. All the shimmers, however, are beautiful and I can see myself getting a lot of use out of Pyramid, Sphinx and Eternal.

Dimension is the most stunning from the jewel-toned shimmers. It is such an unusual but stunning shade of purple that was so buttery and packed with pigment. Osiris and Throne also swatched well and I cannot wait to use these along my lower lash line for a pop of colour!

I love the variety of colours in the matte shades. Lure is a stunning mauve that I know I am going to get a lot of use out of as an all over colour as well as a transition. It is such a unique shade which was what really drew me to it.

I love warm transition shades so Eden and Saturn will be firm favourites to use with the neutral shimmers in this palette. Unity is a pale, nude colour which I would personally use as an all-over wash of colour over my primer before going in with the other shades. Parallel and Obsidian will be great for darkening the outer corner and to create some dimension.

I'm really looking forward to creating lots of different looks with this palette. I am sure it is going to become a firm favourite in my make up arsenal!

ABH have since announced the release of the Soft Glam palette in March which, as the name states, is filled with warm, neutral tones of pinks, golds and browns. The swatches online look lovely and I know I will definitely get a lot of use out of that palette. March cannot come soon enough!

Will you be buying the Prism palette?
